Biomarkers

Which biomarkers are tested?

Click on each biomarker to see what it does and how it can influence your health.

Biomarkers
Biomarkers
Triglycerides

A type of fat stored in the body. High triglycerides can signal insulin resistance, poor metabolic health, and increased cardiovascular risk, all of which can impact hormone balance and energy levels.

Biomarkers
Total Cholesterol

Provides an overall picture of cholesterol levels in the blood. Useful for assessing general cardiovascular health and understanding long-term risk.

Biomarkers
LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein)

Often called “bad cholesterol.” Elevated LDL contributes to plaque buildup in arteries and is a key marker for cardiovascular risk.

Biomarkers
HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein)

The “good cholesterol” that helps remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream. Higher levels are protective for heart health.

Biomarkers
Cholesterol:HDL Ratio

A strong predictor of cardiovascular health. A higher ratio may indicate increased risk and poorer lipid balance.

Biomarkers
Non-HDL Cholesterol

A comprehensive measure of all harmful cholesterol particles (including LDL and VLDL). Considered one of the most reliable markers of heart disease risk.

Biomarkers
HbA1c

Shows your average blood sugar levels over the past 2–3 months. Elevated HbA1c can indicate insulin resistance, prediabetes, or diabetes — conditions that significantly affect testosterone levels and overall metabolic performance.

Biomarkers
Total Testosterone

Measures the overall amount of testosterone in the blood. Low levels may contribute to reduced libido, fatigue, low mood, decreased muscle mass, poor recovery, and difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.

Biomarkers
Free Testosterone

Represents the small fraction of testosterone that is active and available for the body to use. One of the most important markers for understanding symptoms such as low libido, reduced strength, or poor motivation.

Biomarkers
SHBG

A protein that binds to testosterone. High SHBG lowers active testosterone, while low SHBG increases it. Essential for explaining symptoms even when total testosterone appears normal.

Biomarkers
Prolactin

A hormone that, when elevated, can reduce testosterone production, lower libido, cause erectile difficulties, and affect mood. Monitoring prolactin helps identify hormonal causes of sexual dysfunction or low testosterone symptoms.

Biomarkers
Vitamin D

Essential for hormone regulation, immune health, mood, and testosterone production. Low levels are associated with fatigue, low mood, poor recovery, and reduced metabolic function.

Biomarkers
Albumin

A protein produced by the liver. It supports the calculation of free testosterone and provides insight into liver function, nutrition, and overall metabolic health.

If you have any other questions please reach out to us directly.

1. What does the Advanced Male Hormone Test measure?

This test measures the hormones, nutrients, and metabolic markers that have the biggest impact on male health, including total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, prolactin, vitamin D, albumin, plus key cholesterol and blood sugar markers such as triglycerides, LDL, HDL, non-HDL cholesterol, and HbA1c.

2. Who is this test suitable for?

This test is ideal for men experiencing symptoms such as low libido, reduced energy, fatigue, erectile difficulties, mood changes, poor recovery, decreased muscle mass, or weight gain. It’s also suitable if you want to understand your hormone health, track metabolic changes, or assess your cardiovascular risk.

3. Why does this test include cholesterol and metabolic markers?

Cholesterol, triglycerides, and HbA1c play a major role in testosterone production, blood flow, and overall metabolic health. Issues such as insulin resistance, high LDL, or elevated triglycerides can directly affect hormone levels and sexual performance.

4. How is the test done?

The test requires a simple blood sample, which is analysed in our CQC certified laboratory. The blood sample for this test is collected via a venous blood draw.

5. Do I need to fast before the test?

Yes, we recommend 8 hours before. Water is okay.

6. How do I collect the blood sample?

Nurse home visit or you can arrange a venous blood draw yourself. Our Nurse home visit is highly recommended, a qualified nurse collects your blood sample for you and brings it back to our lab.
