Biomarkers

Which biomarkers are tested?

Click on each biomarker to see what it does and how it can influence your health.

Biomarkers
Biomarkers
Total Cholesterol

Measures total circulating cholesterol.

Biomarkers
LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein)

“Bad” cholesterol — elevated levels increase heart disease risk.

Biomarkers
HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein)

“Good” cholesterol — helps remove excess cholesterol.

Biomarkers
Non-HDL Cholesterol

Total atherogenic cholesterol — a stronger predictor of risk than LDL alone.

Biomarkers
Cholesterol:HDL Ratio

Indicates overall lipid balance and cardiovascular risk.

Biomarkers
Triglycerides

High levels can signal metabolic dysfunction and increased heart risk.

Biomarkers
TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone)

Thyroid imbalance can affect cholesterol and heart rate.

Biomarkers
Free T4 (Thyroxine)

Confirms thyroid hormone output and metabolic rate.

Biomarkers
Urea

Indicates kidney filtration and protein metabolism.

Biomarkers
Creatinine

Measures kidney function; high levels can increase cardiovascular risk.

Biomarkers
eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate)

Core marker of kidney efficiency and filtration rate.

Biomarkers
ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase)

Detects liver cell damage; high levels often link to fatty liver.

Biomarkers
ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase)

Checks bile flow and liver/bone health.

Biomarkers
GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase)

Sensitive early indicator of liver stress or alcohol-related damage.

Biomarkers
Albumin

Reflects liver protein synthesis and overall nutritional status.

Why These Biomarkers Matter

This test measures the key markers that influence your cholesterol, metabolism, and organ function giving you a clear view of your cardiovascular health and long-term heart risk.

Cholesterol & Lipid Balance

Assess the fats circulating in your blood to understand your long-term heart and circulatory health.

Thyroid Influence on Heart Health

Check whether your thyroid is affecting heart rate, blood pressure, metabolism, and overall cardiovascular function.

BIOMARKERS INCLUDED

Kidney Health & Blood Pressure Regulation

Evaluate how well your kidneys filter waste and regulate blood pressure which are key factors in cardiovascular risk.

BIOMARKERS INCLUDED
eGFR, Urea, Creatinine

Liver Health & Cardiometabolic Function

Monitor liver enzymes that influence cholesterol production, fat processing, and inflammation linked to heart disease.

FAQ – Cardiovascular Blood Test

If you have any other questions please reach out to us directly.

1. What does the Cardiovascular Health Test measure?

This test checks key markers linked to heart health, including cholesterol levels, triglycerides, thyroid function, liver enzymes, and kidney markers. Together, these biomarkers give a detailed picture of your cardiovascular risk and overall metabolic wellbeing.

2. Who should take this test?

This test is ideal for anyone wanting to assess their heart health, those with a family history of cardiovascular disease, individuals with high cholesterol, or anyone experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, or reduced exercise tolerance. It’s also suitable for people monitoring lifestyle changes or preventative health plans.

3. Do I need to fast before the test?

Yes. We recommend fasting for 8 hours before your sample. Water is okay.

4. Can this test show early signs of heart disease?

While it does not diagnose heart disease directly, it can identify early risk factors such as high LDL, low HDL, elevated triglycerides, kidney strain, thyroid imbalance, or liver dysfunction, all of which significantly influence cardiovascular health.

5. How does thyroid function affect heart health?

Thyroid hormones help regulate heart rate, blood pressure, and cholesterol metabolism. Even small thyroid imbalances can increase cardiovascular risk. That’s why this test includes TSH and Free T4.

6. How do I collect the blood sample?

Nurse home visit or you can arrange a venous blood draw yourself. Our Nurse home visit is highly recommended, a qualified nurse collects your blood sample for you and brings it back to our lab.

7. How long do results take?

Results are typically ready within 2–5 working days once we receive your sample. You will be notified as soon as your report is uploaded.

8. Is this test suitable for monitoring medication or lifestyle changes?

Absolutely. It’s ideal for tracking improvements from diet, exercise, supplements, or cholesterol-lowering treatments, helping you see how your cardiovascular markers change over time.

9. What happens if my results are abnormal?

Our clinicians will highlight any levels outside the expected range and explain what they mean. We will also advise whether to follow up with your GP, make lifestyle changes, or anything else relevant.

10. Can this test help me understand my risk of high blood pressure or hypertension?

Yes. While this test does not measure blood pressure directly, it evaluates several markers that strongly influence hypertension risk, including kidney function (eGFR, urea, creatinine), thyroid health (TSH, Free T4), and cholesterol levels. Imbalances in these areas can contribute to elevated blood pressure, making this panel valuable for identifying early metabolic or cardiovascular factors linked to hypertension.
